A majority of both season 2 of The Flash, and season 4 of Arrow have been spent setting up the newest DC spin-off series, Legends of Tomorrow. While the new show looks promising though, and has the potential to be the best DC TV series yet, the focus spent on setting up and introducing each of the series’ team members has unfortunately dragged down both Arrow and The Flash up until this point.
All Arrow seems to be about anymore is bringing Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) and Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) back into the universe again so they can go fight crime in their own series, and while The Flash has been able to set up their main villain, Zoom, fairly well up until this point, the time spent on the Legends storyline has severely hurt several of the season’s episodes so far.
Looks like it might all be worth it though, as every episode will soon culminate in this year’s Arrow and Flash crossover, that will also feature several Legends of Tomorrow cast members as well. While a majority of the details regarding this year’s crossover are still being kept deep under wraps too, Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim has officially revealed the first photo from the crossover event with the caption, “This year’s Arrow-Flash crossover is only 3 weeks away!“.
Check out the image below:The lineup includes Oliver (Stephen Amell), Diggle (David Ramsey), Thea/Speedy (Willa Holland), Laurel Lance/Black Canary (Katie Cassidy), Barry (Grant Gustin), Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee), and Carter Hall / Hawkman (Falk Hentschel). It’s unknown whether or not these will be the only characters included in the crossover, but I’d be willing to bet that several other Legends cast members will be popping up as well as the other notable supporting characters from Arrow and Flash.
Where last year’s crossover featured two, standalone episodes of both of the shows, Stephen Amell has confirmed that this year’s crossover will be much more like two parts of one movie event, with the two episodes featuring the same characters, with the same problem, and the same villain – making it much more cohesive than its predecessor. We still don’t know who the main villain of the event will be either, but it probably wouldn’t be bad to assume that Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) will be included in some way, leading in to his full-time role in Legends.
The Flash just recently introduced Renee’s Hawkgirl into the universe during its latest episode, and it’ll be interesting to see how long it takes for Carter Hall to show up, and if we might see him anytime before the crossover event in three weeks. Last year’s crossover proved to be one of the high points of both The Flash and Arrow up until this point too, so this year’s has some big shoes to fill in terms of fans’ expectations and the amount of set up that has been made leading up to it already. Now, let’s just wait and see if its story will match its potential.
Also, what’s up with those robot hands Barry’s wearing?
The Flash airs every Tuesday Night on The CW, followed by Arrow every Wednesday night.
