Warner Bros. and director George Miller have successfully revived the Mad Max franchise, as the film has become one of the best reviewed releases of the year. While it came in second place at this past weekend’s box office, it looks like the appetite from the creators is there for more material.
According to director Miller (via Variety), not only is more Mad Max coming, but it even has a title: Mad Max: The Wasteland. Miller made these announcement in his first ever post to the social media website Twitter, which you can see below.
Hello Twitter! Thanks for all the kind words written and said about the film. We had a lot of fun making it..and there’s more Max to come.

It was in a recent podcast that Miller revealed the title of the potential fifth Max movie. If the series moves ahead as is apparently planned, star Tom Hardy is contracted for three more films according to an interview with the actor last month. While it’s fantastic to see that both Miller and Hardy have the passion to return for another outing in the post-apocalyptic Australian Outback, Warner Bros. has not publicly commented on whether or not the series will continue beyond Fury Road, and will likely wait a while longer to see if the current release performs well enough domestically and internationally to warrant a sequel.
As we noted in our breakdown of the weekend’s box office, the critical reaction to Fury Road has been almost universally positive. Many top critics contend that the film is the freshest action release in decades, and is arguably one of the most critically successful franchise relaunches to come along in a very long time. It’s that belief in the material that Warner Bros. is reportedly hoping will ultimately make the film commercially successful as well, so we’ll be keeping an eye on any official announcements that come out about the future of the Mad Max franchise.
