FX’s ‘Legion’ Casts Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, and More

By February 4, 2016

Dear people in charge of making television,

Want to get me excited for a new show? Then tell me something like “The guy who did the Fargo TV series is doing another show for FX called Legion based on the Marvel comic book character that just so happens to be Charles Xavier’s son.” That will really grab my attention. And, I’m assuming, the attention of fans all over the world. Which is why, back in October when I first heard about this show from Noah Hawley, I immediately put it on my nerd radar. Nerd-dar. Whatever. I mean, we all know what Noah Hawley’s capable of from watching Fargo. The idea of him tackling a character like David Haller is incredibly enticing. But just in case you aren’t sold on this project yet, perhaps today’s casting news will change your mind.

Per VarietyLegion has found its star. Dan Stevens (Dounton Abbey) has been cast as David Haller:

…a haunted man diagnosed as schizophrenic at a young age who’s trying to find his way back to sanity. He’s about to give up when he meets the girl of his dreams.

Did I mention he’s also Charles Xavier’s son? Because he is.

Joining Stevens will be Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) as David’s friend, Lenny, and the always awesome Jean Smart (Designing Women, Fargo) as Melanie, a “demanding” therapist. I’m guessing the “girl of his dreams” is the character Syd, which will be played by another Fargo alum, Rachel Keller. Her casting was announced a couple weeks ago. I like all of these people. This is very good news.

The pilot will reportedly go into production next month. No word yet on a potential airdate. With all this talent involved, and the fact that it will air on FX, Legion should be very high on your Most Anticipated list. I for one cannot wait to see it.
