Warning: This post may contain spoilers for the upcoming episode of Game of Thrones.
With HBO refusing to release a full synopsis, the general consensus amongst fans going into this week’s episode of Game of Thrones, titled “Battle of the Bastards” is that it will all take place in the North, as Jon Snow’s army and Ramsay Bolton’s finally face head-to-head for the lordship of Winterfell. Similar to other big battle episodes like “The Watchers on the Wall” the battle’s large scope and importance to the story would warrant an entire episode dedicated to it.
However, it looks like that might not be true after all, with a new report suggesting that “Battle of the Bastards” won’t contain just one big meeting between characters, but two.
In a larger feature on the series, a fan spotted a small tidbit of information included in the most recent issue of the UK’s TV & Satellite Week (via Nerdist), which suggests that Daenerys Targaryen will meet Yara and Theon Greyjoy in the episode as well:
Huh, so it’s not a full Northern episode? pic.twitter.com/96hmG8arl5

Now, it should be noted that TV & Satellite Week is known primarily as being more on the gossip side of the news spectrum than anything else, and isn’t known particularly for its scoops, so take this with a grain of salt for the time being.
With that being said though, the way that the magazine doesn’t even make a big deal out of the information, and just sort of throws it out nonchalantly as if it was well-known information, makes it seem like it may not have even been an attempt at a scoop as much as it was providing context for the issue. Plus, the meeting between Dany and the Greyjoys has been set up over the past few episodes, with Yara and Theon sailing to meet her in Meereen, and the Mother of Dragons returning to her city in last week’s episode.
Personally, I was betting more on the meeting happening at the end of this season, especially with how focused on the Winterfell battle the trailers have been, though that could just be smart marketing on HBO’s part. The Greyjoys are sailing towards Dany with an entire fleet of some of the kingdom’s fastest ships as well, something that Dany desperately needs right now, not only to get to Westeros, but also to defeat the Slave Masters attacking Meereen, which makes their partnership seem even more timely. Not to mention that it would unite two of the show’s strongest and coolest female characters.
Again, make sure to take all of this as unconfirmed news for the time being, and could just be an assumption on the magazine’s part (though it could have also been an unintentional leak on their part as well). If it is true though, then “Battle of the Bastards” may not end up being the straightforward episode we had all assumed it to be.
“Battle of the Bastards” will air this Sunday on HBO.
