Take-Two Interactive is tooting their horn quite loudly as the first day sales of Grand Theft Auto V amounted to over $800 million (and it hasn’t even launched in Brazil or Japan yet)!
No big surprise that the news of being the “highest first day of retail sales of any title EVER” has Take-Two’s chairman and CEO Strauss Zelneck bursting with pride.
“Once again, the team at Rockstar Games have outdone themselves, setting the entertainment industry’s new standard for creativity, innovation and excellence. Beginning at midnight on Monday, consumers around the world gathered in anticipation to be among the first to experience the evolution of this remarkable series. In North America alone, more than 8,300 stores opened their doors at midnight to welcome fans whose loyalty and enthusiasm were rewarded with what The New York Times called ‘the most immersive spectacle in interactive entertainment’.”
The fifteenth game (you heard me) in the GTA series, the first main entry since 2008’s GTA IV AND possibly the LAST GTA to be released exclusively for this gen’s consoles (PS3, Xbox 360), GTA V takes players to back San Andreas, where they’ll find themselves switching between three characters (Michael, Trevor, and Franklin) as they roam the mean streets of Los Santos – modeled after Los Angeles – as they plan (and hopefully execute) six mega heists in order to make them rich as f***.
One of the fun things this time around is the “Out Of Your Depth” achievement you can get for being eaten by a shark!
WARNING: If you’re trying to find this achievement on your own, DO NOT WATCH THIS.
Did I mention there’s also multiplayer, which allows for up to sixteen players to immerse themselves in either co-op or competitive gameplay action? YYYUP!
And if the early reviews are any indication, Take-Two, Rockstar North (developers) and Rockstar Games (publishers) have lived up to the hype and earned this amazing windfall; as soon as I can scratch $60 bucks, I’ma be all up in it, too.
See you in Los Santos, suckas.
