Attention, fanboys and fangirls: get ready to explode with joy, because a Guardians of the Galaxy/Avengers crossover film is probably going to happen!
In an interview with Yahoo UK, co-writer/director James Gunn and the Guardians cast were asked about the possibility of a crossover, and their answers were enlightening. Gunn said:
We talked about all sorts of possibilities [for a crossover] and I kind of know what the basic plan is. That could or could not include a couple of Avengers and a couple of Guardians meeting up, or all of the Avengers and all of the Guardians. But, we do inhabit the same universe and they’re pretty big personalities that are likely to, at some point or another, run into each other.
Vin Diesel (Groot) added, “I think there’s going to be huge fans of the Guardians and there are huge fans of the Avengers and I think the discussion has already been had. I think the audience may demand something like that.”
But speaking of The Avengers, if you’re thinking Guardians big bad Thanos will make an appearance in Joss Whedon’s upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron, think again.
While it’s true we DID get a glimpse of him in The Avengers end credit tease (above), Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed during a GoTG press briefing that at the moment, Thanos won’t appear in Ultron…as of right now, that is.
When Slashfilm asked Feige about this very subject, Feige gave his answer in true Marvel fashion:
He’s not a part of Avengers 2. I think Thanos does what he wants, and shows up where he wants to, and I’m not going to tell him otherwise. You don’t know exactly; smirking at the end of Avengers. By the way, we’re still making Avengers 2, so nothing’s definitive one way or the other, actually.
So if we go off of a previous statement from Avengers director Joss Whedon where he said he “wants to save the big finale for the big finale,” that “big finale” COULD be an epic showdown in Avengers 3 between Thanos, the Avengers AND the Guardians…I may die of happiness before I even set foot in the theater to see it (which is looking like it’ll happen in 2018).
Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy opens nationwide August 1st (which is TOMORROW)! Feel free to check out our review, read our interviews with Gunn and the cast, and watch our video interviews with the cast.
