After already producing three seasons of critically-acclaimed television on Netflix, Marvel is set to continue their Defenders franchise later next month with the season one premiere of Luke Cage, which will continue the beloved character’s story in Harlem, after his introduction last year in Jessica Jones. Following the first SDCC tease several weeks ago as well, Netflix has released a brand new trailer for the upcoming series, one that offers quite a bit more from the upcoming series.

Offering not only more from Mike Colter’s Cage, the trailer also gives more insight into Rosario Dawson’s role as the returning Claire Temple, Mahershala Ali Cornell Stokes, Simone Missick’s Misty Knight, Alfre Woodard’s Mariah Dillard, and more.

Check out the trailer below:

Everyone wants to be king…”

Already, Luke Cage looks like a refreshingly different and fresh series from Marvel and Netflix, who despite making all of their Defenders series exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has managed to make Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and now this, feel like their own wholly unique shows. I’m not just talking about the vibrant musical choices and new cast of characters either.

With only this and Iron Fist needed before The Defenders team-up can finally happen too, I’m excited to see where Luke Cage’s story goes next after the brief, but memorable role he played in Jessica Jones. If you keep your eyes peeled during the trailer as well, you may catch a quick reference to the character’s iconic comic book costume…

Luke Cage is set to premiere on Netflix on September 30th.
