As Harry Potter and the Cursed Child nears its first preview, it seems like the upcoming eighth installment in the beloved franchise is doing everything it can to make sure that fans are aware of its presence in the meantime. Following the first images of the Potter family as well, the first images of Paul Thornley (Ron), Noma Dumezweni (Hermione) and Cherrelle Skeete (Rose Granger-Weasley) in costume as their characters in the play have been released.
As of right now, the family’s’ overall role in the new installment is still not much more than a mystery, though we do know that it’ll pick up where Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows left off, with Ron and Hermione married and sending their daughter off to school. Seeing how the family interacts with Harry’s though, is one of the most unpredictable, and exciting aspects of the new chapter.
Check out the photos for yourself below:
Thornley talked about getting to pick up where the books left off as well, teasing the Granger-Weasleys’ state when we meet back up with them:
“It’s 19 years later when the play begins. Ron is married to Hermione Granger and they’re now the Granger-Weasleys. Our magnificent daughter Rose Granger-Weasley is about to start at Hogwarts, which is obviously a big day for everyone.”
Cherrelle expressed her enthusiasm for the project as well, and teased how Rose might be similar to her mother:
“I can’t think about how big it is or I’ll just faint. Putting on my uniform, ready to go to Hogwarts, and seeing everyone else in their uniform was exciting. I’ve been looking at it every day in the wardrobe department, waiting for the day I can get on the Hogwarts Express. Rose is ambitious, obviously her mum is Hermione so she’s got a lot to live up to. I think they’re quite similar in the fact they put a lot of pressure on themselves. And she just wants to do the right thing.”
Potter creator, J.K. Rowling added:
“Rose is like her mother, but more secure, more grounded. She was born to wizards and knows her place in the world. Cherrelle plays her perfectly: bossy but deeply lovable.”
Similar to yesterday’s photos of the Potter family, I sort of love the look of these images, and specifically the costume work. It’s nice to see Ron keeping the strange, almost homemade style and look of his siblings and mother. I will say however, that I sincerely hope it’s just the lighting because otherwise I may have a legitimately difficult time accepting an older version of Ron, without his red hair. In these photos, Thornley’s hair seems much more strawberry blonde than anything else, and considering the red hair is one of his family’s most identifiable traits, I’m gonna keep my fingers crossed that it looks much more accurate in person than it does here.
