‘Hercules: The Legend Begins’ To Beat Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Hercules’ Movie To Theaters

By November 12, 2013

Looks like Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. The Rock) won’t be the only Hercules on the block next year. According to Deadline Hollywood, shirtless wonder and Twilight star Kellan Lutz’s Hercules film has been picked up AND given a release date that probably won’t make Johnson too thrilled.

In the Renny Harlin-directed Hercules: The Legend Begins, Hercules (Lutz) has been sold into slavery and fights to gain his freedom in order to save Hebe, the lovely Princess of Crete (Gaia Weiss) and his one true love.

Now that Lionsgate’s Summit has bought the film from Millennium Films, this 2D/3D film now has a release date of February 7, 2014, which is a solid five months before Johnson’s Hercules: The Thracian Wars is scheduled to hit theaters. Sounds like an Olympus Has Fallen/White House Down scenario all over again.

But wait! That’s not all!

The cast of Lutz’s Herc movie is STACKED with some serious talent. Along with Lutz’s castmate from the upcoming The Expendables 3, Scott Adkins (who was also in The Expendables 2), Liam McIntyre (“Spartacus”), Liam Garrigan (“Strike Back”), Johnathon Schaech (“Ray Donovan”), Roxanne McKee (“Game of Thrones) and Rade Serbedzija are all there and ready to party.

Here’s hoping The Rock and Lutz do some kind of cage match…preferably shirtless…and in loin cloths.

What? I’m allowed to dream!

Hercules: The Legend Begins opens in 2D and 3D on February 7, 2014.
