It’s been two years since Batman: Arkham City left gamers and fans of Batman clamoring for more. Just like with films, this usually leads to a rush job on the next title, leaving fans bummed, bewildered and broke while asking “Er, WTF was that?”
But not Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) and DC Entertainment, they know what fans want in a Batman game and have been stepping it up with each title.
Yesterday, WBIE and DC Entertainment announced the two newest titles to the Batman franchise, the multi-platform Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate for the 3DS and PS Vita.
Gamers will be stoked to hear that Arkham Origins features an expanded Gotham City AND a new prequel storyline set several years before the first two titles (Arkham Asylum, Arkham City). In the new storyline, we meet a “young and unrefined” Batman early on in his crime-fighting career facing one of the defining moments that’ll lead him on the road to becoming the Dark Knight.
Bonus: players will also meet quite a few important characters for the first time whose relationships become key later down the line.
“Okay, if you DON’T want a kick to the face, put your hands on your ears. Ah, who am I kidding? Yer still getting one.”
New gadgets to the game include the Remote Claw (can be used to tie enemies together, launch items, set traps, etc.) as well as the Batwing, which’ll help Batman “fast travel” between Old and New Gotham. Now before you ask, the Batcave IS accessible during investigations and allows Batman to look for clues by running simulations in several different angles.
AAAAAND Batman will have the ability to solve crimes and chase villains in new side missions, AAAAAND a new “Dark Knight” challenge system will award experience points by completing assigned tasks.
Did I mention Deathstroke is making his debut in Arkham Origins and seven other enemies like Black Mask, Alberto Falcone and The Penguin will be there to join Deathstroke to give Batman some REAL growing pains? Did I also mention that shiz goes down between ALL these guys and the Dark Knight on Christmas Eve?!
(Feel free to squee, I did.)
Black Mask, EEEEEEEE!
Armature Studio’s handheld companion game, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate (which takes place after Arkham Origins), 3DS and PS Vita owners will not only get access to a Batman Arkham title for the first time, they can get more tasty details about the Dark Knight’s past!
Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate hits stores THIS October 25th and while I won’t be grabbing Blackgate, Arkham Origins looks pretty damn tasty so far.
*MANY thanks to Game Informer for the sweet, sweet info and droolworthy images!
