‘House of Cards’ Actress Constance Zimmer Joins ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

Phil Coulson’s team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents will have to deal with one of the thorns in the side of President Frank Underwood.

According to Marvel, actress Constance Zimmer has joined the cast of ABC’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” for its upcoming third season. In regards to whom she’ll be playing, Marvel stated in their announcement,

Constance Zimmer has joined the series to play the head of a mysterious new group that will cross paths with S.H.I.E.L.D. as both seek out new Inhumans following the events of last season. “When casting this role, we needed someone that could go toe-to-toe with Coulson,” said series Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “Constance brings a level of wit and spark to the role we could have only dreamed of, and we’re beyond excited to add her to our already stellar cast going into the new season.

Marvel stopped short of revealing the character’s name, so it’s unclear if Zimmer’s character will have originated from the comics, or if she’ll be an entirely original creation for the show. Zimmer’s highest profile role in recent years has been on Netflix’s original series “House of Cards,” where she played reporter Janine Skorsky, first a rival of Kate Mara’s Zoe Barnes, then a close ally. After Zoe’s murder at the hands of Frank Underwood, Janine went into hiding at the end of the show’s second season, and has yet to reappear. “House of Cards” will debut its fourth season this coming February.

“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” has dedicated a lot of screen time to the development of the Inhumans, a race of superhumans created in 1965. With Marvel Studios actively developing an Inhumans feature film for release in July of 2019, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” could be providing a slow burn to eventually tie into that release down the line. We also know that the third season of the series will feature the introduction of the Secret Warriors, a team created in the comics that answered to Nick Fury.
