International ‘Ghostbusters’ Trailer is the Best One Yet

We’re just under two months away from the release of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot, and the marketing department at Sony Pictures has been struggling to win over potential audiences. The first trailer was met with a lukewarm reception when it premiered in March, and while the second trailer, which dropped earlier this week, was a significant improvement over the original, it still seemed to be trying a bit too hard for its own good.

Luckily, studios will often cut different versions of movie trailers to play in other markets - we saw this last week with Don’t Breathe, whose international trailer was far superior, especially considering the fact that the domestic trailer spoiled a couple of the film’s biggest surprises. So it’s no shock that the new international trailer for Ghostbusters is the best-looking piece of marketing we’ve seen yet. Check out out, courtesy of Sony UK’s Twitter feed.

Much of this footage was also used in the domestic trailer, but here it’s been cut much tighter, causing the jokes to land with a little more impact – especially when delivered by Chris Hemsworth, who seems to be well on his way to stealing this movie right out from under his costars. It’s not often that we get to see Hemsworth in a comedic role, and when it happens it’s always delightful.

If this has been the only version of the Ghostbusters trailer released this week, I think the overall reception would have been much stronger – and watching this clip has helped to restore my faith in this project, which I’ve been a pretty vocal supporter of since the very beginning. Feig has a strong record of crafting incredibly funny comedies headlined by incredibly funny women, and I’ve got my fingers crossed that Ghostbusters will be no exception.

Starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, Ghostbusters will open in theaters on July 15.
