There has been a lot of Ghostbusters talk in the news the past few months. There is, of course, constant news regarding the all-female Ghostbusters reboot directed by Paul Feig, that is currently in production. However, there has also been a lot of talk about another, male reboot starring Chris Pratt and Channing Tatum that has reportedly been in the works.

A lot of people have been confused by this news, and understandably so. The need for one Ghostbusters reboot alone has been called into question a large number of times, but the idea of doing two Ghostbusters reboots, one starring an all-female team, and the other being all-male just doesn’t seem to make much sense.

Looks like the fans were right to be doubtful too. The original 1984 film’s director Ivan Reitman (who is also an executive producer on the new film as well) released a statement today regarding the rumors, and have confirmed that there is only ONE actual Ghostbusters reboot in the works.

“There has been a lot of excitement recently about what is happening with the Ghostbusters franchise. As the producer of the new Ghostbusters film, I feel the need to clarify. There is only one new Ghostbusters movie and that is the Paul Feig directed version coming next July, presently filming and going fantastically. The rest is just noise.”

Now, this goes directly against the report yesterday when screenwriter Drew Pearce said he had already finished his work on the Tatum/Pratt film. However, considering that Reitman is directly involved in some capacity with the reboot, that makes this statement seem much more accurate than some of the previous reports.

It’s possible that the Pratt and Tatum film might still be happening at some point, and Reitman released this to make sure the focus stays on the Paul Feig-directed reboot, or it’s possible that the all-male film won’t happen at all. We’ll have to see.

The all-female Ghostbusters film is set to hit theaters on July 22nd, 2016.
