Netflix’s original series “Orange is the New Black” has been an integral part of the streaming service’s evolving niche as a provider of top-tier first-run series, joining the likes of “House of Cards” and “Hemlock Grove” as a major reason to sign up. The show, taking place in a women’s prison and following the exploits of Piper Chapman’s sentence for transporting a suitcase full of drug money to a former lover. The show, featuring wonderful performances by Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, Kate Mulgrew, Uzo Aduba, and Jason Biggs will be returning this June for its third season. Unfortunately, though, it will be one man short.

According to Variety, Jason Biggs will not be returning this year to reprise his role of Larry Bloom, Piper’s fiancé, in the new season. Biggs, who has been with the show since its 2013 debut, detailed that it’s not about him walking away as much as it is about the narrative focus of the show this season. In a statement to the New York Daily News, he said,

They’re not focusing on Larry at the moment. Larry will not be in season three. But there’s always a possibility he can come back.

Although Biggs has left the cast this year, the new season has picked up actresses Mary Steenburgen and Ruby Rose and actor Mike Birbiglia, all joining the cast for this year. Steenburgen will be playing prison guard Mendez’s mother, while Rose is being described as a new love interest for both Piper and Laura Prepon’s Alex. Birbiglia’s role is as-yet unknown.

“Orange is the New Black” will debut its third season exclusively on Netflix this summer. For more news on the show as it develops, keep an eye on GeekNation!
