Jennifer Lawrence Shares Her Opinion on ‘The Hunger Games’ Prequels

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 isn’t even out of theatres yet, and Lionsgate is already talking about making prequels to the beloved film franchise. After the final two films were met with polarizing reactions too, the prequels would apparently take the story back in time, and into the arena atmosphere that occupied both the first film in the franchise and Catching Fire. To say that the idea was met with some negative reactions from fans too, would probably be an understatement.

Frankly, the idea of continuing the franchise just for the sake of keeping it going not only seemed pointless, but also disrespectful to the original vision and themes in Suzanne Collins’ source material. While producers and studio execs have since come out clarifying the prequels’ possible stories too, it doesn’t look like the reception towards this idea will be lightening up any time soon.

While recently promoting her newest film Joy too, Jennifer Lawrence herself, who played Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games films, was asked what she thought of prequels to the franchise, and it looks like the Mockingjay agrees with us everyone. Check out her response below (via Variety):

“It’s too soon. They need to let the body get cold.”

This echoes the sentiments of many fans out there right now as well, hoping that these prequels don’t end up coming to fruition. There are still some people out there who have yet to even see the conclusion to the current franchise too, so while there are some audience members out there that wouldn’t mind the idea of more films set in that world, I don’t think there’s any denying that these kind of conversations are coming a bit too soon considering the finale’s release just late last month.

Lawrence of course, would not be expected to return in any of the prequels, which would apparently take place during the unwavering reign of the Capitol, but without any of the rebellion story points, or Katniss’ presence, the idea of a film solely taking place in the arena seems almost too small compared to the massive crusade we just witnessed onscreen.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 is currently in theatres nationwide.

Only way I see it working is to go back before the Arenas, to the civil war that started the Arenas then show the 1st Arena.
