If you can’t cut it on shows like “American Idol,” “The Voice” or “America’s Got Talent,” then Jimmy Fallon has the next great competition program for you. Well, at least if you’re a celebrity.
The host of “The Tonight Show” is bringing his viral lip sync battle segment to Spike TV with the appropriately named half-hour program “Lip Sync Battle,” where celebrities will go head-to-head lip syncing the song of their choice, just to say they’re the best. If you have no idea what we’re talking about, you should probably check out this example right here:
Fallon will compete on the show in addition to executive producing, and he’ll be joined by “The Office” star John Krasinski and “Hello Ladies” lead Stephen Merchant (who also just happened to produce the original UK version of “The Office”), both of whom will be competing and executive producing the show alongside “The Tonight Show” host.
The series will tape in January next year with a premiere date set for April 2nd, 2015 on Spike TV. Honestly, as fun as the lip sync battles have been on “The Tonight Show,” I’m not sure that the concept can sustain itself for an entire half-hour series. It mostly relies on the caliber of the celebrities who end up on the show. It also doesn’t help that it’s on Spike TV, a network not exactly known for their high quality programming.
Of course, we all know that Fallon can bring the heat, and he’s faced off against John Krasinski before, but what about Stephen Merchant? Well, you can see him battling with Fallon and Joseph Gordon-Levitt right here:
Are you interested in “Lip Sync Battle” or would you rather just see it on “The Tonight Show” instead?
