John Krasinski Cast as Jack Ryan for Amazon TV

By April 30, 2016

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan has had plenty of iterations during his 30+ years of fictional existence. In addition to appearing in over a dozen of Clancy’s novels, he’s also shown up on the big screen five times with four different actors playing the role. Alec Baldwin kicked things off in The Hunt for Red October, followed by Harrison Ford in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. Ben Affleck then stepped in for The Sum of all Fears, and 2014 saw Chris Pine take over in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Now, a new actor is set to play Ryan in an upcoming potential series for Amazon TV.

According to Deadline, John Krasinski has been cast for the new show entitled (shocking) Jack Ryan. While nothing has been greenlit just yet, should it get that far the show will be produced for Amazon by Paramount TV, with showrunners Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Graham Roland (Fringe) already onboard. The show originally landed at Amazon with a full series commitment, so it’s believed that Krasinski’s casting will lead to the official green light being given.

Krasinski, of course, is best known for his role as Jim Halpert on the NBC sitcom The Office. Since the show’s finale he has starred in several films including Promised Land with Matt Damon, The Hollars, and last year’s Michael Bay-directed 13 Hours

The show will not be a strict adaptation of Clancy’s novels, as the movies have been. Instead, the Deadline report describes it as “a new contemporary take on the character in his prime as a CIA analyst/operative using the novels as source material.” The novels follow Jack Ryan’s life from his days as a CIA analyst all the way through two terms as President of the United States. Depending on what direction the series takes, and how successful it is, there really isn’t much of a limit as to how far it can go.

I haven’t seen “13 Hours” which I think is His only action movie, but I have read a lot of good reviews on His performance!
