John Wick was not only one of the best action films of 2014, but it also brought its star, Keanu Reeves, back to the forefront as a legitimate, older action star. Considering how beloved the original film was, and the sheer quality of it as well, it’s no surprise that work on a sequel didn’t take long after its release to begin, and it looks like we finally have some more concrete details about John Wick’s continued adventures.
After confirming the return of several characters from the first film, as well as some mysterious and interesting locations, the title, release date, and story setting for the highly-anticipated sequel have been revealed.
Thanks to Exhibitor Relations, who regularly report on Box Office news, we now know that the sequel to John Wick will be called John Wick: Chapter Two with a set release date on February 10th, 2017. Also included in the announcement was the reveal that the sequel would find John kicking some “Italian ass” in Rome, giving the film a new environment and setting with an entirely different history to explore.

Keanu Reeves will travel to Rome to kick some Italian ass as JOHN WICK: CHAPTER TWO drops 2/10/17.

What the original John Wick did so well, other than its unique gun-to-gun action sequences, was its story and world-building. Similar to how George Lucas created an entirely lived-in and believable world in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, without ever having to show the audience all that much of it, the creative team behind the original film did the same as well, hinting at relationships and locations with interesting histories, without ever actually delving too far into them.
There’s no word on how some of the original film’s characters will factor into the new, Italian story, but we do know that the returning cast members include John Leguizamo, Ian McShane, Bridget Moynihan, and Lance Reddick, as well as the newest additions in Ruby Rose, Laurence Fishburne, Peter Stormare, and Common. The latter of whom will be playing one of Wick’s main rivals in the film, and to that I say, bring on the pain.
In case you’re wondering whether or not I just compared John Wick to Star Wars as well - you can bet your ass I did
John Wick: Chapter Two is set to hit theatres on February 10th, 2017.
