‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ Director Promises Twice as Much Action

By September 24, 2016

Earlier this week, we got our first look at Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 2, courtesy of a teaser poster which featured the hitman being measured for a new suit. Details on the highly anticipated sequel to 2014’s surprise hit John Wick have remained shrouded in secrecy, but director Chad Stahelski recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the feverish fan response to the first film, and what he hopes to accomplish with the sequel:

“People kept asking us in the year after the movie came out, ‘We’d like to see more about the hotel. We’d like to see more about all the different characters. What is this underworld where everyone’s the best?’

What’s it like to be in a world like this? That’s what we really wanted to expand on. Me and the other creators on the show, my partner and the other producers, the biggest attraction to us about filmmaking really is creating a universe, and creating a world, and creating a little bit of escape. That’s really what we focused on and we’re hoping that’s what comes across in the second movie.”

The news that Stahelski and his team will be expanding on the John Wick universe is intriguing, as there are plenty of aspects worth exploring, including the aforementioned hotel. But just because the world is getting larger doesn’t mean the action will be getting smaller – quite the contrary, in fact, as Stahelski promises:

“I would say we had twice as much action as the first movie. We took it all a full notch up as far as the driving car stuff went. A great portion of the car chase in the opening of the film is Keanu, which is very impressive.”

With as much mayhem as Stahelski stuffed into John Wick, the promise that Chapter 2 will deliver double that amount is almost staggering to consider. The director has some pretty big shoes to fill – even if they’re his own – and we’ll find out whether or not he’s up to the task when John Wick: Chapter 2 blasts its way into theaters on February 10, 2017.
