Daredevil season 2 hasn’t even come out yet, and already early reviews and fan anticipation have begun praising Jon Bernthal’s newest interpretation of Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher, calling him the most faithful onscreen iteration of the beloved character yet. Acting as one of the main antagonistic forces against Matt Murdock this season as well, it looks like Frank Castle is going to bring a whole different kind of trouble down upon Hell’s Kitchen this season.

There were already rumors running rampant over the past few months that Netflix and Marvel were developing a possible spin-off series for the beloved antihero, and although those rumors have recently been proven false, it looks like at least one notable person is ready and willing to work on a series for the character.

While recently speaking with Empire Magazine, Bernthal shared his reaction to the spin-off rumors:

“This guy is very much burned into my heart and soul. I think about him all the time. And I look at it the same way Frank would look at it. I’m a soldier, man. If they call on me, I’ll stand to attention and I’ll be ready.”’

After creating an incredibly solid, impressive acting career over the past few years with his work on shows like The Walking Dead and Show Me a Hero or movies like The Wolf of Wall Street and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, it will be refreshing to see Bernthal given a role that allows him to show off his subtlety and charisma all at once, rather than one or the other. Here’s to hoping people won’t just say, “Shane!” whenever they see him onscreen from now on.

Daredevil season 2 will premiere on Netflix on March 18th.
