“True Detective” is definitely one of those rare television anomalies. With only 8 episodes in this season, along with a self contained story which we will end this Sunday, Nic Pizzolatto’s masterpiece has generated so much speculation that it’s reminiscent (to me anyway) of the good ol’ days of “Twin Peaks.” Every week, HBO tackles some deep and dark subject matter with this program, and this Sunday will hopefully be the amazing crescendo everyone expects. (If you’ve missed ’em, check out our recaps here!)
In an attempt to bring some much needed levity here, I thought it would be best to compile the best “True Detective” parodies that are floating around on the web. You may have seen some of these already, but let’s revisit and celebrate the insanity of Rust, Hart, and The Yellow King!
TRUE WARRIOR CATS
When “True Detective” first started airing, a few friends sent me this video. It’s the internet, so why not make a cat video parody of the show’s opening credits? Cats rule, that’s why!
TRUE DETECTIVE/LAW AND ORDER MASHUP
What if “True Detective” was really a “Law And Order” spinoff? If that question ever entered your mind, take a gander at this opening credit sequence that throw Rust & Hart smack dab into that procedural world. If this were a thing, I’d watch it.
TRUE DETECTIVE CONVERSATIONS
True Detective Conversations is a meme that popped up soon after the program premiered. Riffing on the brilliantly bonkers ramblings that come out of Rustin Cohle’s mouth, this tumblr is f*cking hilarious. It hasn’t been updated in a month, though. Let’s remedy this situation, shall we, internet?
“TRUE DETECTIVE”: THE OSCAR PARODY
We’re are smack dab in the middle of the McConaissance! The past few years of this man’s career is nothing short of amazing. The above video was released just prior to his Oscar win and tackles the thoughts that are on every body’s minds. Explain Fools Gold, dude! Hilarious.
WHAT WAS REALLY ON THAT DISTURBING TAPE MARTY WATCHED?
Matthew McConaughey isn’t the only one that has had some questionable credits in his body of work. In last week’s episode, Rust sat Marty down to watch a video tape that depicted some gruesome acts. Watch the video above to see what was really on that tape! Be sure to have a flask nearby.
RUST COHLE PICK UP LINES
One of the many sites hopping on the “True Detective” bandwagon for Valentine’s Day, a friend of mine sent me this link. The above image is just one of a handful of romantic e-cards you could send to your lover. And just because V-Day is over, doesn’t mean you can’t use some Rust logic to woo your special one!
CAN ANYONE UNDERSTAND “TRUE DETECTIVE”?
The most recent parody that hit the net is from none other than “Community’s” Joel McHale and Jim Rash. This video was shot for “The Soup” and explores the confusing and often misheard dialog from the show. Well played, guys!
We’re just days away from the season 1 finale of “True Detective”. I’ve only cracked the surface here regarding all the crazy parodies and memes online. Did I miss something? Let me know your findings in the comments below!
