Despite several rumors over the past few weeks regarding a “nervousness” towards Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the rest of their cinematic universe, DC and Warner Bros. have revealed some interesting new production details for Justice League – Part 1, which will be the direct follow-up to Batman v Superman and not only bring back Ben Affleck’s Batman, Henry Cavill’s Superman, and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, but also introduce Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Ezra Miller’s The Flash, and Ray Fisher’s Cyborg.
The studio has revealed (via EW) that production on Justice League – Part 1 will begin on April 11th, just two weeks after the release of Batman v Superman theatrically. Check out DC and director Zack Snyder’s statement below:
“The idea that we could begin to boot up a Justice League concept was a cool thing,” says Snyder. “It was a little bit of an ‘about time’ moment, and I don’t blame [the studio] for feeling that way, because it’s a long time coming,” he said. “But I do feel like it’s a little bit of a creative hurdle. It seems like an easy thing to do at first glance, the idea that, ‘Oh, we just get the rest of the superheroes in there.’ But you have to [establish] a world where they can exist.”
So yes, Zack Snyder will still be directing Justice League – Part 1, whether that makes some of you happy or not it sounds like.
A majority of the production will take place in Leavesden Studios in England, with several other locations in London and Iceland, which doesn’t really amount to all that much since we still don’t know the film’s story for the time being.
I will say that it seems like a bit of a risky (or brave depending on how you look at it), move on the studio’s part to start production so soon, but at the same time, it doesn’t give them hardly any time to hear fans’ reactions or criticisms about Dawn of Justice, and incorporating them into the quality or story of Justice League – Part 1. With the film’s release date and likely massive post-production schedule, it makes sense, but the lack of cushion for a possible negative consensus towards BvS is slightly worrying.
Justice League – Part 1 is set to hit theatres in November 2017.
