For a movie that’s only two years away, DC and Warner Bros. have a lot of ground to cover in their Cinematic Universe before the release of Justice League Part One. Not only will characters like Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and a slew of other, important DC comic book characters need to be introduced onscreen between then and now, but the universe itself is going to have some serious world-building to do in order for the eventual team-up film to work.

It looks like DC has created a fairly solid plan for that too, with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice introducing some of the main Justice League members, and Suicide Squad set to focus more on establishing a clear tone and history, the studio is clearly shooting to build their DCCU and character lineup in a unique way that not many other studios have attempted yet.

According to a new rumor from Heroic Hollywood though, Justice League Part One could also include the introduction of some new characters into the DCCU as well, with the report stating that the film could feature the character of Mera a.k.a. the Queen of Atlantis. The report states that Mera’s role in the film is still unknown, but casting for the part may begin soon, and the character is described as being “considered the Khaleesi of the sea and Aquaman’s true love.” If she is introduced in Justice League Part One as well, it is safe to assume that she’ll probably appear in a much larger role in the 2018 Aquaman standalone film.

Mera will likely be a new character for those audience members out there not as familiar with the Aquaman comic books, but it would be interesting to see an onscreen companion to Momoa’s Aquaman, especially after how heavily the marketing has focused on the strength and ferocity of his interpretation up until this point. Furious 7 director James Wan is set to direct the 2018 standalone film too, and knowing his skill when it comes to big budget, action set pieces should be enough to make even some of more skeptical fans out there at least interested in this film.

Considering the character has become the butt of a lot of jokes over the past few years, it’s clear that Warner Bros. is going to do their best to make sure that audiences take him seriously when he shows up onscreen for the first time, and the reveal that his true love acts not only as a companion, but an equal, could help to make the film even more accessible for a wider range of moviegoers.

Justice League Part One is set to hit theatres on November 17th, 2017.
