Katie Cassidy to Guest Star on ‘The Flash’ and ‘Vixen’

By April 9, 2016

If you haven’t seen this week’s episode of Arrow, then you should probably stop reading now, for there are SPOILERS ahead. Go watch it, then come back to us. We’ll be waiting.

Ok, for those of you actually watched “Eleven-Fifty- Nine” this week, you’ve spent the last few days trying to process the HUGE events of that episode. We finally know who’s been in that grave we first saw back in the season premiere: Laurel Lance. Yup, Black Canary met her fate at the hands of Damien Darkh, bringing an end to a character that may not have always been a fan favorite, but has been an integral part of Team Arrow’s story from the beginning. Well, actually, that may not have been the end. At the very least, it won’t be the last time we see and/or hear Katie Cassidy in the CW comics universe. Earlier this week (c/o Collider) it was announced that Cassidy would be guest-starring on both The Flash and Vixen later this year.

The news of her appearance on The Flash definitely raises some eyebrows. She’ll show up in the penultimate episode of Season 2, only she won’t be playing the Laurel Lance we know and (sometimes) love. I mean, obviously. That Laurel’s dead. No, when she ventures to Central City she’ll be playing the Earth-2 version of Laurel. While Arrow’s Laurel donned the mask of the Black Canary, her Earth-2 doppelganger’s alter-ego is known as Black Siren. DC fans may recognize this character as a member of the Justice Guild of America who showed up on an episode of the Justice League animated series back in the day. No word yet on whether she’ll be aiding Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) in his battle against Zoom or if she, like Ronnie Raymond and Caitlin Snow before her, will be an adversary for the Scarlet Speedster.

Cassidy will also voice Laurel Lance for a turn on Vixen, which airs on CW Seed. We don’t have any plot details on this one, but Vixen has teamed up with Black Canary in the comics before. Given the events of Arrow, there’s a chance this episode will be a flashback of some sort.

Of course the big question will be whether or not her appearance on The Flash could lead to an eventual return to Star City sometime this (or next) season. We’ve obviously seen characters cheat death on Arrow before, but it’s pretty certain that Earth-1 Laurel Lance won’t be escaping the grave. But with all the dimension-hopping going on over on The Flash, there’s always a chance that version of the character could show up to give Team Arrow a hand someday.

Katie Cassidy will appear on the May 17th episode of The Flash on the CW. Her episode of Vixen will be available on CW Seed later this year.
