Keanu Reeves is Working on Retiring in ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ Trailer

By October 8, 2016

Lionsgate may not have had much presence at this summer’s SDCC, but they certainly seem to be making up for it at New York Comic-Con. Earlier today the studio revealed the first teaser trailer for their upcoming reboot of the Power Rangers franchise, and now we have the first official footage from one of their most anticipated releases of 2017, John Wick: Chapter 2.

Keanu Reeves is back to reprise his role as the legendary dog-loving hitman, this time traveling to Rome in order to battle a former associate who wants to overthrow a clandestine order of assassins and put them under his own command. You can check out the John Wick: Chapter 2 trailer below.

Released in 2014, the first film was lightning in a bottle, transcending its B-movie roots to become one of the most buzzed-about action flicks in recent memory, thanks to the stellar direction from Chad Stahelski and David Leitch. This time around, Stahelski is flying solo, but based on this footage it doesn’t seems like he’ll be at a disadvantage – this looks every bit as balls-out crazy as the original John Wick.

There’s also a ridiculously talented supporting cast here, including Lance Reddick, John Leguizamo, Ian McShane, and Bridget Moynahan returning from the first film, and newcomers Common, Riccardo Scamario, Ruby Rose, Franco Nero, Peter Stormare, and Keanu’s old pal Laurence Fishburne. I’m already crossing my fingers for some kind of clever nod to fans of The Matrix when these two share the screen again.

In addition to the trailer, which I’ve already watched about five times while writing this article, Lionsgate released a spiffy new poster for John Wick: Chapter 2, along with an official synopsis (not that storytelling has been this franchise’s biggest strength, of course):

Keanu Reeves returns in the sequel to the 2014 hit as legendary hitman John Wick who is forced to back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.

John Wick: Chapter 2 is scheduled to blast its way into theaters on February 10, 2017.
