It took Disney Animation a surprisingly long time to announce work on Frozen 2 considering the massive success that Frozen brought the studio with its 2013 release. Bringing the studio back to its fairy tale story roots, the film featured a soundtrack that has since become one of their most iconic, and featured talented voice over stars and performers including Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, and Jonathan Groff.
There hasn’t been much word on the sequel’s progress since its original announcement though, but while recently speaking with Collider, Bell revealed that she’s about to go in and begin recording lines for the sequel. Check out what she had to say about the film’s progress and story below:
“Not yet. We’re just about to. They’ve just written it and they’re still doing tweaks, but I think we should be recording this month. The story is great, and they exude quality. What I know about that whole team is that they wouldn’t just put something out to put it out. That’s why it took them so long to even announce that we were doing a second one. Generally when you have a first successful movie you want to make a second one. It took them a while because they wanted to figure out what story they needed to tell and what would be important and engaging and I think they found it.”
When asked if she had begun working on the film’s songs and soundtrack yet though, Bell replied:
“No, not yet. We record all the time for different parks or different parks that open overseas, we’ll do a mashup for the rides. So we actually get to go in — Josh [Gad] and Idina [Menzel], Jonathan [Groff] and I — all the time and record new bits of the music. When Epcot center opens we’ll record a bunch of new music. So we have little bits of Frozen in our life at all times, but I’m excited to get started on the new movie.”
There’s no mention on when the film will be released, but considering how long it usually takes for Disney to complete their animated films, it’ll likely be a little bit longer than some of you Disney fanatics out there would probably like. Until then though, you still have the Frozen Fever short film to tide you over, and of course, the original’s soundtrack to continue blasting whenever you feel like, just to make sure your neighbors never forget the words to “Let it Go.”
Frozen 2 is currently in development.
