In terms of speculated castings in the fan community right now, few are getting quite as much attention as the role of Cable in Deadpool 2 is, with the film’s end credits scene confirming his introduction in the sequel and the character’s creator even going so far as to share his pick for the coveted role. However, Cable isn’t the only X-Force member possibly set to appear in the follow-up film, with several fan theories and reports indicating that Domino could be in the film as well.
News on the castings for either role (including a confirmation of Domino’s inclusion) have been somewhat silent in the months following the film’s February release though, with Simon Kinberg even coming out recently to say that the role of Cable has not been cast yet.
Thanks to some new comments from Mashable’s Jeff Sneider though, it looks like we at least know two actors that could be playing both roles in the film, and they’re surprisingly two that haven’t been rumored or entered into the conversation yet. During the latest episode of Meet the Movie Press, Sneider revealed that the two actors who he’s heard are being looked at for the roles are Kyle Chandler for Cable and Mackenzie Davis for Domino:
“People were talking about Cable from Deadpool 2. There’s been a name floating around for Cable for months. Hasn’t changed. Don’t know if its changed. Didn’t make any calls about this. This was just the name that has been out there for months. So take this with a gigantic grain of salt. The biggest grain of salt your tiny little brain can imagine. The name that is floating around for Cable right now is Kyle Chandler.”
“The name for Domino, who is said to be the scene-stealer of the movie, is Mackenzie Davis.”
Now, as Sneider himself notes, make sure to take both of these castings with a grain of salt for the time being, but I will say that they both make sense for their respective roles. Chandler is more of a veteran and solidified name than Davis is, but he has yet to enter into the superhero genre and Cable could make for an interesting role for the Friday Night Lights and Bloodline star. Plus, he’s shown he can play that straight-edged, no bullshit role before.
Davis is more exciting for me personally though, since I’ve been watching her work fairly closely for several years now, ever since Halt & Catch Fire first premiered on AMC and she’s gone on to have interesting roles in films like What If, The Martian, and more over the years as well. I think for the character of Domino, she’d be able to make a fairly huge impact in the sequel as well, bringing to life a character who could really only make a good introduction in the Deadpool franchise. So yeah, it’s kind of a no brainer where both of these names are concerned, though we’ll have to wait and see if either castings become a reality.
Deadpool 2 does not currently have a release date.
