Liam Neeson can currently be seen in theaters starring in A Walk Among The Tombstones, but soon enough he’ll be back in action as Bryan Mills in yet another Taken film. The upcoming sequel is now officially titled Tak3n, and despite Neeson’s insistence that he couldn’t imagine a storyline that would warrant a third movie in this franchise, some new photos have emerged that reveal that he’s definitely in it, so the studio must have backed up a dump truck full of money and unloaded it on his front lawn.
USA Today has a few choice quotes from Neeson, who gives a hint about the story and apparently thinks that this movie will actually be the last one in the franchise (for real this time, you guys):
This time, no more traveling. If my daughter was ‘taken’ again on a trip, Bryan Mills would have to be certifiably locked up for bad parenting.
I have to go on the run, I’ll put it that way, from the not-so-lawful types and the lawful authorities. Bryan Mills served his country faithfully, but now even they are after him. They must not like me.
It’s a rollicking good story. But I think this is the end.
Right. Forest Whitaker joins the cast this time, and though he doesn’t get to fight Neeson one on one in this film, he said, “that will have to wait until Taken 4.” He’s kidding – I think – but with the amount of money these movies consistently make, it may not be a joke a couple of years from now. Tak3n will be directed by Olivier Megaton, a guy who has one of the coolest names I can think of but also happens to be one of the worst filmmakers I can name. Transporter 3, Colombiana, Taken 2 – each is worse than the last, and since Taken 2 was one of the worst action movies I’ve seen in the past ten years, I can’t imagine how terrible the third one is going to be with Megaton back at the helm. I liked the first one well enough, but I think I’m going to have to skip Tak3n to preserve my own sanity. The film opens on January 9th, 2015.
