‘Louie’ Finally Returning for Fourth Season on a New Night Starting in May

By March 13, 2014

Though there was plenty of good comedy in 2013, audiences were definitely missing FX’s hit comedy series “Louie” from one of today’s most popular stand-up comedians, Louis C.K. But the wait is nearly over.

FX has just announced that after 19 months of being off the air, the Emmy-winning “Louie” will finally be returning to FX with two episodes on Monday, May 5th at 10pm and 10:30pm ET. In fact, there will be two new episodes of “Louie” every single Monday in the same back-to-back timeslots for seven consecutive weeks, all the way through June 16th.

When the fourth season was ordered, only 13 episodes were part of the deal, but Louis C.K. decided to deliver an extra episode, and FX wasn’t going to say no to more of one of their most popular comedy series, especially considering it’s been gone for so long. John Landgraf, the CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions says:

“Louis said he needed extra time between seasons three and four of his show because – even though Louie was the most critically acclaimed television comedy series in America – he needed to make it even better. Based on the first three episodes we’ve seen, remarkably, he accomplished his goal.”

Louis C.K. has certainly been busy since the third season ended. The comedian took supporting but pivotal roles in Woody Allen’s acclaimed Blue Jasmine and he also had a scene-stealing performance in the Best Picture nominated American Hustle last year too. And for his own achievements behind the camera, he recently released his directorial debut called Tomorrow Night – which premiered at Sundance in 1998 – through his personal website.

The comedian also delivered another comedy special on HBO called “Oh My God” and popped up on “The Daily Show,” “Conan” and “The Tonight Show,” not to mention sitting down for an awesome episode of “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” with Jerry Seinfeld.

We’re just glad the show that he writes, directs, produces, edits, and stars in is finally coming back so we can get our fix of his comedic brilliance. Of course, we’re still waiting to see what he delivers with Zach Galifianakis for his second show at FX. And for those who can’t wait until then, Louis C.K. is hosting “Saturday Night Live” on March 29th, so make sure to come back for my recap after that weekend.
