Lucy Lawless Heads to ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead’ at Starz

By March 9, 2015

After teaming with Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert on “Xena: Warrior Princess” and “Spartacus,” Lucy Lawless will reunite with the duo for another series.

THR reports that the “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Parks & Recreation” guest star will co-star in the new Starz series “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” which brings back Bruce Campbell as the title character, a stock boy turned chainsaw-handed monster hunter.

The new series sees Ash having spent the past three decades voiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. But suddenly, a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons — personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its evil grip. So how does Lawless come into play in all this?

Well, the former warrior princess will play Ruby, a mysterious figure who is myopic in her quest to hunt down the source of the recent evil outbreaks. So we’ll likely get to see her kick some Deadite ass as well. However, she brings some bad news because she thinks the recent evil outbreak has somehow been caused by Ash.

Lawless joins a cast that also includes Jill Marie Jones (“Sleepy Hollow”), Ray Santiago (Meet the Fockers) and Dana DeLorenzo (“Growing Up Fisher”). All of them are bound to get covered in plenty of fake blood when all is said and done.

Production on the new series will begin this spring in New Zealand, with 10 episodes ordered for the first season that will premiere sometime later this year. Sam Raimi is on board to direct the pilot, which he co-wrote with brother Ivan Raimi (also executive producing) and Tom Spezialy (“Reaper”). Meanwhile, Craig DiGregorio (“Chuck”) will executive produce and act as writing showrunner along with Raimi, Taper and Campbell.

This sounds like a lot of bloody fun. Stay tuned for anymore updates as production gets closer.
