With just over a week from the release of Warner Bros. highly anticipated Superman film Man of Steel, the exposure for Krypton’s Last Son is at its highest point in several years. Buzz on Man of Steel continues to be extremely positive, and people who have attended LA’s premiere have expressed little more than resounding enthusiasm and excitement surrounding the return of the Last Son of Krypton.
As a result, there are a couple of really interesting promotional videos now available that can give you a bit of deeper insight into the spirit of the film, as well as interesting snippets of footage we haven’t seen yet. The first of these is a video called the “Man of Steel Publicity Special,” a thirteen-minute piece that gives some behind-the-scenes details about what the film aims to do with the character of Superman, the world he inhabits in the upcoming film, and what awaits us when we sit down in theaters on June 14th.
Over the last few days, Man of Steel licensing partner Nokia has had a countdown on their website. The clock ticked to 0 today, and revealed the final official trailer for the film that is equal parts action-packed and heartfelt. We get a greater look at Russell Crowe’s performance as Jor-El, Superman’s Kryptonian father, as well as some slight detail in a way that General Zod may try to get Kal-El to come out of the woodwork. Speaking of the General, there are a lot of new glimpses at both him and his followers that help give a sense of breadth to the threat that he will represent for the burgeoning hero in the film.
And speaking of that threat, the action in this film looks like it’s very ambitious, and I really feel like it has the extraordinary potential to top perhaps even the chaotic climactic fight in the finale of The Avengers. Time will tell, but if these glimpses are any indication, the film looks extraordinarily promising in delivering a film worthy of both the physical and symbolic power that only Superman can claim.
Before you read too deeply into my obvious excitement as nothing but fanboy maximizing, maybe this next tidbit of information will set your minds at ease. I think it’s fairly safe to say that the summer has gotten off to a rousing start at the movies, headlined by movies like Iron Man 3, Fast & Furious 6, and Star Trek Into Darkness. But, what happens when a movie sells more tickets in advance than any of those other films?
According to a tweet by Wall Street Journal reporter Ben Fritz, Man of Steel is outselling “all previous summer 2013 movies at the same point in the sales cycle” according to a source at Fandango, which includes the box office powerhouse of Iron Man 3. This definitely indicates the highest amount of pre-release anticipation for a film this season, and may indicate that Superman is about to get back on top of the superhero genre in more ways than one.
Can the Man of Steel take down The Avengers? I know the answer to that question myself, but how will the box office answer? We’ll be able to get our first glimpse at the results next week, as Man of Steel opens next Friday, June 14th!
