Marvel Adds Chad Michael Murray & Enver Gjokaj to ‘Agent Carter’

“Agent Carter” is gearing up for its first season, and Marvel has just announced that the show has added two new cast members to the mix. “One Tree Hill” star Chad Michael Murray will play SSR Agent Jack Thompson, while “Dollhouse” actor Enver Gjokaj will play Agent Daniel Sousa, both of whom will meet Hayley Atwell’s Agent Peggy Carter when she comes to New York City to take on her new role at the SRR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), an organization that eventually become absorbed into S.H.I.E.L.D.

It appears that these characters have been invented for this series, and while we don’t know much about either one of them at this time, we do know that “Agent Carter” will be set one year after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger. Here’s the official synopsis:

It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life–Steve Rogers.

Murray’s a bit of a surprise, but he has that classical look of a guy from the 1940s, so I can see him fitting in well with the Marvel TV universe. Gjokaj has actually already had a tiny role in a Marvel property – he played “young cop” in The Avengers – so presumably this show will just forget that ever happened, because otherwise they’ll have to work out why a guy who looked just like Gjokaj was walking around in modern day and why he looks exactly the same in the 1940s. I mean, there’s always the off chance that he’s a Richard Alpert-type from “Lost” (read: someone who doesn’t age), but that’s extremely doubtful.

“Agent Carter” will begin to air its first 13-episode season in January of 2015, airing when “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” takes a long break between half-seasons.
