Vin Diesel has become notorious for his… campaign strategies – if that’s the right term to use. It’s become well-known over the past year or so that Diesel was dropping hints he was working on Guardians of the Galaxy before Marvel had even requested a meeting with him. He literally forced the studio to reach out because he was dropping so many hints towards his involvement in the film, and as we all know – those hints ended up working towards his (and our) advantage as the actor returned to the voice over world to play Groot in Guardians.
However, it doesn’t look like Diesel is through yet. After we can already assume he’ll be returning for 2017′s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the actor has been periodically teasing his possible involvement in an additional, mystery Marvel movie over the past few months, and has been highly-rumored to be 2019′s Inhumans film, which is one of the few Marvel movies not to be affected by the recent release date alterations.
While recently speaking with i09 too, Diesel continued to tease some more possible collaborations with Marvel in the future aside from just his work on Guardians, and even goes on to drop details about the possible character he’s spoken to the studio about playing. Check out his comments below:
“I can totally be something [else] with Marvel. I think playing [Groot] only makes Marvel that much more excited and me having my experience with Marvel, seeing how great they were, makes me more excited.
We’ve heard a lot of talk about Marvel wanting to have me play a character that doesn’t have my voice. So my voice is used for Groot and my presence is used for the other character.”
Of course Diesel is referring to Black Bolt, the near-silent leader of the Inhumans in the Marvel Comics and most likely in the film as well. Black Bolt has slowly become one of the more-beloved obscure characters among comic book fans over the past few years too, who has hardly any dialogue in the actual books as his voice can cause catastrophic amounts of damage whenever he speaks. So it makes sense that Diesel could provide his presence and physicality for the character, without speaking and would be about the only name in the upcoming films that would make sense in relation to his past hints as well.
The actor has actually been a fan-favorite for the role ever since Guardians was released because while Diesel doesn’t necessarily have the best acting chops in the world, the physicality and presence he brings to his roles could actually make sense for the Black Bolt character. It’s also possible that this is Diesel trying to capture lightning in a bottle twice though with Marvel, and it’s highly-likely that the studio will look at other candidates for the role in the coming years too. Considering the challenge that the character provides for actors, I can imagine a lot of other names in the industry right now who I’d like to see step up and take a swing at the onscreen iteration of Black Bolt as well.
Inhumans is set to hit theatres on July 12th, 2019.
