The internet’s a strange, and really powerful place, isn’t it? One minute you spend your life thinking there’s no way Marvel would actually have the balls to bring Squirrel Girl to life in a live-action format, on television or film, and then the next Anna Kendrick says she wants to play the character and it all suddenly becomes a viable, exciting possibility to think about. After all, who wouldn’t at least be interested in seeing that?

Well, while it looks like Kendrick might not be playing the character any time soon (she is one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, after all), it does seem that Squirrel Girl will be coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Believe it or not.

TVLine is reporting that Marvel Television is currently developing a New Warriors comedy series that will follow “the junior version of The Avengers….[A] superhero squad made up of teenagers, one of whom would include Doreen Green.” The report also states that Marvel is currently shopping the series around to both cable and streaming services, meaning we could expect yet another high-end series from Marvel, similar to their Defenders line-up on Netflix.

This also comes just off the heels of the recent announcement that the studio would be working with Hulu on a Runaways TV series as well, which just continues to spread out Marvel’s reach over both the film and television formats.

Squirrel Girl is a character that has had a bit of a resurgence in popularity over the past several years, though some might call it an ironic one at that. Easily one of Marvel’s silliest and most obscure heroines, Doreen Green seems like the perfect kind of character to help headline a superhero comedy for the studio, especially since their Damage Control comedy seems to have fallen off the radar as of late, with DC beating them to the punch on a similar show in Powerless on NBC, which is set to premiere in January.
