Marvel Releases First Official Live Action Photos of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

By February 17, 2014

I’ve been seeing a lot of movie websites out there breathlessly cover toy-based events over the past couple of weeks in a seemingly desperate effort to glean what Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will look like. I’ve chosen to ignore that stuff and wait for a real look instead of playing a giant guessing game, and now USA Today has the first official live action photos of the cast. See, everyone? It’s OK to be patient. (Note: These photos aren’t super high quality, but we’ll try to replace them when we get a better set of images.)

Along with the header photo, which features the whole team, the magazine also snagged a shot of The Milano, the team’s spacecraft, cruising through the skies over the surface of Xandar, the home of the Nova Corps, and a close up glance at the curly-haired star Chris Pratt. The film’s first trailer will debut on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” this Tuesday at 11:35pm EST, and be in theaters this Friday.

If you stayed through the end credits of Thor: The Dark World, you already know that this movie is going to be freaking bizarre. But I’ve gotta say: that first photo looks pretty damn cool, too.

For those of you who might think this story is going to be “more of the same” from Marvel Studios, Chris Pratt doesn’t think that’s the case: “[People] know what to expect at every turn. So that’s why it’s important now to do a comic-book movie that no one’s ever seen before.” We can’t wait to see what the folks at Marvel have cooked up this time.

Director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Lee Pace, Benicio Del Toro, and Glenn Close. The movie hits theaters on August 1st, 2014.
