Matthew Vaughn is ‘Open’ to Directing ‘Kingsman’ Sequel

By June 13, 2015

This past February, 20th Century Fox released Kingsman: The Secret Service, a film based on a comic book series by writer Mark Millar and artist Dave Gibbons that starred Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, and Taron Egerton. Making back over four times its production budget, buzz for a sequel has been stirred since its release, and now the director that helmed the first outing may be game for a return to that world.

According to Yahoo! Movies, director Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First ClassKick-Ass) has expressed interest in returning to the world of Kingsman in a follow-up project. Normally, Vaughn doesn’t really participate in subsequent films, but he seems to be willing to make an exception when it comes to the characters of this series.

I’m in love with these characters and I want to work with them again, so I’ll probably be breaking the rule of tending not to make sequels. […] If I think I can get the script good enough, then we are making it. We are doing our damndest to make that happen.

As he says, he is currently developing a screenplay for a follow-up film. There’s no word on whether or not the world’s initial creators from the comic book series are involved, but Vaughn and Millar seem to have an effective working relationship, so it stands to reason that Millar will, at the very least, consult on a direction.

Vaughn’s previous films certainly support the director’s own statement about choosing not to direct sequels, as Kick-Ass 2 was directed by Jeff Wadlow, and the follow-up to X-Men: First Class — last year’s Days of FUture Past — was directed by original franchise helmer Bryan Singer.

Vaughan is my favorite director by far at the moment. Would be so epic if he decided to direct the Kingsman sequel.. Hopefully something official will be released soon about it.

he’s such a good director, i certainly wouldn’t complain if he changed his beliefs on sequels for this one
