Mephisto Confirmed to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

By September 20, 2016

With both Ghost Rider and Doctor Strange set to be introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe this year, one of the biggest fictional onscreen universes in film and television history is about to be blown wide open once again with the introduction of both the Marvel Multiverse and the mystical side of the MCU. With it, comes not only the Sorcerer Supreme and Spirit of Vengeance though, but other characters the likes of which the Avengers have never seen.

Promoting the upcoming fourth season premiere of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as well, actor Gabriel Luna, who’s playing Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider in the new season may have confirmed the existence of one of the long-rumored Marvel villains in the MCU.

Courtesy of Collider, here’s what Luna said about bringing in the mystical side of the marvel comics to the film and television adaptations:

“What we [The MCU] haven’t touched on are things that can’t be explained perfectly by science. It’s a lot of really fun stuff that starts to lean into the world of Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider and Mephisto, and all of these other elements that also exist there, like ghouls and goblins and all sorts of cool things. We’re happy to be the ones to break the ice on that.”

Obviously, the big name here is Mephisto, a character who is basically Marvel’s version of the Devil, a methodical and satanic seducer and planner who often makes deals with the heroes and villains of Marvel for information usually. He’s potentially a huge character for the MCU, acting as the kind of villain that could not only fit in with and give a much-needed change of pace for characters like the Avengers, but also easily be featured in a Doctor Strange storyline or through a character like Ghost Rider.

He’s been long-rumored to be introduced into the MCU at some point by fans, and whether it was just a slip of the tongue or not, it seems like Gabriel Luna could have just confirmed that sooner or later, Mephisto will be coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after all.
