Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller Reuniting for WB Heist Film

As long as negotiations & scheduling can be figured out, That Awkward Moment co-stars Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller will soon be in the comic book movie spotlight as two members of Josh Trank’s The Fantastic Four (with Jamie Bell and Kate Mara rounding out the team). But that isn’t the only planned reunion for the up-and-coming actors.

The Wrap reports that Teller, who wowed audiences in the indie The Spectacular Now and this year’s Sundance winner Whiplash, and Jordan, fresh off a highly-praised turn in Fruitvale Station, are reuniting with Tom Gormican, the writer/director of That Awkward Moment. They’ll star in an untitled heist movie for Warner Bros. set in Macau and described as “in the vein of fun capers like WB’s own Ocean’s 11,” but no other plot details are readily available.

Despite being big fans of both Teller and Jordan, I haven’t had a chance to see That Awkward Moment yet, though unfortunately I’ve heard plenty of negative things about it. If those opinions are to be believed, we can only hope that this reteaming of talent yields a much better film. These rising stars are bursting with charisma, and it’s easy to imagine them as a younger version of Clooney, Pitt, Damon, and the rest of the Ocean’s gang, so I’m sure they’ll come out of this project just fine. The question then becomes whether Gormican, who has very few credits to his name so far, can direct something with the same kind of style and pinache as Steven Soderbergh – which, needless to say, is a tough comparison to live up to.

Also up in the air is whether Gormican will write this project or if he’ll bring on another scribe to do that job, and as with every project in Hollywood, the script is the most important part of a production. If the script sucks, it doesn’t matter how charismatic the leads are – nine times out of ten, the movie won’t be very good. Let’s hope WB can get the screenplay figured out quickly, and once they do, we’ll see if the team behind That Awkward Moment (including producer Scott Aversano) can deliver a memorable heist film. Thoughts?

Would like for this pic to do well. That magic from the Ocean’s films could be hard to recapture. Here’s hoping. I need a good thieves get away with it fix.

    • For sure. I love movies like that, and I have a lot of faith in these actors. Let’s just hope the script is up to par…
