‘Mythbusters’ Cuts Kari Byron, Grant Imahara and Tory Belleci After 10 Years

By August 22, 2014

Bad news has arrived for anyone who was perfectly happy with the popular science series “Mythbusters” on Discovery, because the network has announced that Kari Byron, Grant Imahara, and Tory Belleci are leaving the series after 10 years.

Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman will go back to being the only co-hosts of the series as they were when the show first started in 2003. Discovery made this statement last night announcing the sad news:

Kari, Tory and Grant have been an incredibly important part of MythBusters for over a decade. From explosions to car crashes to even more explosions, this trio has helped shape MythBusters into the Emmy-nominated series it is today. We want to thank them for their tireless work busting almost 1000 myths, and wish them all the best.

Almost immediately, all three of the Mythbusters took to Twitter to lick the wounds of their most loyal fans. Here’s some of the posts from Twitter, along with one from the official “Mythbusters” account:

Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman (just as you would expect) also offered their thanks and tribute to the trio:

Kari Byron was a little more detailed in some follow-up tweets saying, “The show is taking a new direction. It was an amazing run. I learned so much about myself and the world. I am sad for an ending but there will be exciting new adventures for us.” It’s not clear what those new adventures might be, or why Discovery felt the need to let the trio go at this time, but it sounds like they all have some hope for the future.

We’re just happy that the show isn’t completely canceled, and Adam and Jamie will keep the science fun going. But if you’re still bummed about this news, you can check out a cool photo retrospective of Kari, Tory and Grant’s moments from “Mythbusters” right here, and there’s even this nice video tribute to the departing gang of nerds that you can watch. [Ed. note: We wanted to embed the video below, but I’m having some trouble with it, so just watch it at the link instead.]
