While Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment just confirmed the upcoming movie slate for the next six years, we still have almost a year and a half until their next superhero film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, is released. That’s an incredibly long time for fanboy culture to just sit and wait, so of course leaks and set videos are coming out on a consistent basis and will likely continue until the studio releases more official content (like how they released photos of the Batmobile through Zack Snyder’s Twitter account). The latest leak comes from an anonymous extra who worked on the film, braving a $5 million lawsuit for revealing information.
ComicBook.com linked to a video report from a local Michigan news station that had some very interesting – and spoilery – details about the movie, so if you don’t want to know what you might see, then turn back now. Most interestingly, the extra claims that the character of Robin is indeed in this film, and “as scripted now” will be played by a woman. Jena Malone from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was reportedly spotted on set, leading to speculation that she’s been added to the cast and will be playing Carrie Kelly, the female version of Robin from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns (which is obviously a big inspiration for this film).
So with a female Robin in place, that would confirm that Scoot McNairy’s mystery role is not going to be the Boy Wonder, and the recent hiring of Ezra Miller as The Flash also proves that those strange socks he was wearing on set weren’t because he’s playing The Fastest Man Alive. Rumors sprang up a little while ago that he’d be playing Jimmy Olsen, who was severely injured in the Battle of Metropolis between Superman and Zod in Man of Steel, and with all of this new information that’s come to light, that seems to be the most likely outcome. Other info leaked by the extra includes talk of a big fight at a party between Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor that escalates to such a point that the military has to be called in. Sounds intense.
And in addition to that, a different news station has captured footage of a giant structure in the desert being constructed for the film. What is it? I have no clue, and I couldn’t even begin to guess – it doesn’t resemble anything I’ve seen from the comics, but being all alone out in the middle of the desert seems like a good place to blow some stuff up, so we’ll see if that structure remains standing by the time the credits roll. Watch the news report below, and circle March 25th, 2016 on your calendar for the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
