It’s easy to forget that out of their many projects, DC also has a Shazam! film in the works right now, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson already attached to star in it as the villain/anti-hero, Black Adam, especially since there’s been little-to-no updates about the project since The Rock’s casting and only minor updates/comments from those involved here and there. Though, it seems like it could be one of the more promising projects in the DCEU right now.

While we all wait until 2019 to actually see The Rock unleash a can of whoop ass as the character, some brilliant new artwork from fan and illustrator Juan Martinez offers a brief taste/look at what The Rock could look like as Black Adam onscreen in the DCEU.

Suffice it to say, it’s pretty damn awesome:

The costume work is impressive, and while it’s impossible to know how accurate it’ll end up being, it just seems to drive home further the fact that this is legitimately perfect casting on DC’s part here.

It seems like a foregone conclusion at this point as well that the DCEU’s version of Black Adam will fit more in line with the recent comic book incarnations of the character, which have turned him from a straight-up villain into more of an anti-hero, complex character in the DC Universe. The Rock himself has even hinted that Black Adam could join the Justice League at some point, which could be exactly what that team needs depending on the 2017 film’s success.

Let’s face it though, the inclusion of The Rock in any DC film, all of which have suffered from fatal tonal errors up until this point, gives it an added edge and possibility of true vitality. No matter what, the man is practically a living charisma machine, and should be able to breathe some interesting and exciting new life into the DCEU, when he finally arrives onscreen as the character in a few years.
