New Rumor Suggests ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ May Have an Unexpected Connection to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′

Despite the first film doing wonders in terms of progressing the Infinity War storyline forward for the MCU, it’s looking more and more like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be much less concerned with setting up the rest of the movies now, as Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord not only comes face-to-face with his father for the first time, and the group must also come to understand the power and consequences that can come with being the Guardians of the Galaxy. Suffice it to say, it seems like a very personal story this time around, even more than its predecessor was.

However, a new rumor suggests that while Vol. 2 may not focus too much on connecting back to any of the other movies, one of the other MCU films next year may have a moment that connects to Guardians, and specifically, one of the film’s brand new additions.

The Hashtag Show, who also was the first to report the Iron Fist casting earlier this year, is reporting that Thor: Ragnarok could see Thor and The Hulk during their intergalactic road trip, come across the Cotati, one of the oldest alien species in the universe, best known as the alien race that awakens Mantis’ powers, a.k.a. Pom Klementieff’s new character in Vol. 2. We know that Mantis’ origin story is going to be changed from the comics in the movie as well, and the report goes on to state that instead of the Cotati looking like their plant forms from the source material, they may instead look like Mantis’ appearance in Vol. 2.

If this is true as well, this could also tie back into Captain Marvel‘s origin story as well, a character they’re going to start setting up at some point soon following the confirmation of Brie Larson as the character at SDCC, since the Cotati also lives on the same planet as the Kree, an alien race instrumental in giving Carol Danvers her powers. Considering how excited I am to see the Captain Marvel solo film, and to see Larson in the role, based purely on my love for the character as well, this possibility gets me practically giddy with excitement.

Now all of this should be taken with a grain of salt for the time being, but at least having the possibility of both a Guardians and Captain Marvel connection in Thor: Ragnarok, which is setting itself up to be one of the craziest MCU films to date, should be enough to get fans theorizing about what other places or connections Thor and the Hulk might run across during their buddy road trip across the cosmos together.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to hit theatres on May 5th, 2017, and Thor: Ragnarok will be released on November 3rd, 2017.
