NYC: You Could Sit on The Iron Throne From ‘Game of Thrones’ Later This Month

The Iron Throne

I’m guessing a handful of our readers in the New York/New Jersey area are aware that the Super Bowl is coming to town on February 2nd. In what’s being billed as “a Super Bowl so historic it takes two states to host it,” the NFL has decided that Super Bowl 48 will be played at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. So what does that have to do with the title of this article?

Well, to lead into the Super Bowl, Time Warner Cable is hosting events from Monday, January 27th until Saturday, February 1st at Time Warner Cable Studios, a temporary studio set up at 440 West 14th Street in New York City in a 45,000 square foot space. Among the many things to do there, attendees will have the chance to sit on the Iron Throne from HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and if you sign up in advance, you’ll also be able to explore the props, costumes and weaponry from around the fictional Seven Kingdoms.

The event is free to sign up and attend for TWC customers (reserve a tour space at, and aside from “Game of Thrones”-themed content, they’ll have stations where you can act out a scene from History Channel’s “Vikings,” get free coffee and desserts on a tour of a “Cake Boss” cafe, explore the set of Captain Flint’s pirate ship from the new Starz series “Black Sails,” film your own sports news segment on the set of SportsCenter, test your soccer skills, and more.

Let’s just say Time Warner Cable isn’t exactly my favorite company in the world, but a chance to sit on the Iron Throne (which should really look like this) would go a long way toward making up for the hassle of using them as a cable and internet provider. Any of our NY/NJ readers planning on checking this out? Let us know in the comments below.
