Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has a lot riding on it. Not only does it need to be a compelling film in its own right, it also needs to lay the foundation for the full slate of films DC Comics and Warner Bros. have planned. To help facilitate that, we already know Wonder Woman will be appearing in the film (plus, you know, she’s in the trailer), as will Aquaman. But wait! That’s not all! According to a new report from ScreenRant, we will be seeing at least one more Justice League member in the film: The Flash!
Though not much is known about how The Flash (Ezra Miller) will appear in the film, it’s not expected to be much more than a brief cameo. Costume designer Michael Wilkinson, who worked on Dawn of Justice and will continue for several of the forthcoming DCEU films including Justice League, recently let it slip that Flash would be showing up sooner than expected:
I’m not really at the liberty to talk about The Flash right now, but it’s something that you’ll be seeing in the future in our films. You do get a glimpse of him, of course, in Batman v Superman.
Wilkinson went on to say some very nice things about Miller’s work as the Scarlet Speedster:
But I’m really looking forward to taking the amazing, iconic costume for The Flash and interpreting it in a fresh way where Ezra Miller is playing The Flash. He’s an extraordinary performer, he has a sort of interesting sense of humor and the youth that will be great for Barry Allen and I think he’s going to make a great Flash.
It will be very interesting to see how they fit Barry Allen into Dawn of Justice. I like the fact that it doesn’t sound like he’ll be doing much in the film, as we don’t want things to get too crowded. It’s been suggested Flash’s appearance could be in a “flash forward” (pardon the pun) that gives us a vision of the full Justice League, or he could just appear on a TV monitor in the background somewhere. A very brief cameo is the right way to go here. Besides, there’s still Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Justice League between now and Flash’s standalone film in 2018, so there’s plenty of time to give Barry Allen a proper introduction.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in theaters on March 25, 2016.
The Flash will open on March 23, 2018.
