Optimus Prime Gets Makeover and New Autobots Join ‘Transformers 4’

By May 29, 2013

Early images of Transformers 4‘s newest Autobots popped up yesterday on Yahoo and boy, they sure are sexy.

Let’s meet them, shall we?

First up, we have what is rumored to be an Autobot named Drift in vehicle form…

Boasting a 1,200 hp engine that hits a top speed 255 mph (and will drain the 26 gallon tank in an insanely quick 8 minutes at said speed), this sexy Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse seems to be the perfect body for Drift (once a Samurai looking to regain honor by joining the Autobots) to inhabit, no?

But if you’re more into American-style sexy, then this baby (rumored to be Slingshot) is for you!

Slingshot’s form is the 2014 C7 Corvette Stingray and while sexy as hell, it could be confusing/frustrating for fans who know Slingshot as an Aerialbot with jet vehicle mode. Combined with a 450-hp, 6.2-liter V-8 engine, a base price of $52,000 and seeing the car put through its paces in T4, Chevy is hoping gearheads and fans alike will want one of their very own.

But the BIGGEST (but not necessarily best) news of the day comes from Michael Bay himself in the form of a redesign of Optimus Prime.

Posted by Bay on his official website, this new O. Prime keeps the same trademark elements we know and love but is a completely upgraded, custom built rig. I gotta say I am NOT a fan of the flames AT ALL. What’s he gonna look like when he goes back into bot form? Are they gonna look like tattoos? Right now, I feel this design makes Optimus Prime look like Douchebag Optimus Prime.

Even though these are official photos released with Paramount’s approval, the characters are still just rumors at this point (except Optimus, of course). But one thing that IS for sure is comedian/actor T.J. Miller (Cloverfield, How To Train Your Dragon) has signed on to play the mechanic best friend of star Mark Wahlberg.

As Transformers 4 is set for release June 27, 2014 and co-produced by a Chinese production company, anything goes and we expect that we might see a few more Eastern-inspired Autobots pop up between now and the film’s release.

Stay tuned.
