Paramount Wants ‘V/H/S’ Director For Another ‘Friday The 13th’ Reboot

By April 15, 2014

As if the 2009 reboot weren’t enough, it looks like we’re getting yet ANOTHER version of Friday The 13th.

According to The Wrap, Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes are wanting another reboot of the 1980 classic (which was already rebooted in 2009 with Marcus Nispel in the director’s chair), and the studio is looking to writer/director David Bruckner – whose segment “Amateur Night” (below) for the 2012 horror anthology “V/H/S” was the only watchable segment – to direct this newest incarnation.

Oh, and by the way, we’ve heard rumblings that this new version will be a found footage film. Paramount loves the money its Paranormal Activity series has been bringing in over the past few years, and it seems like they’re going to go with the “low cost, high profit” model with this franchise now, too. Of course, there will be sex, violence, and death for a group of beautiful people (and possibly an old man or two) in this new take on the story, but I’m not a fan of these reboots; they completely gloss over the importance of Mrs. Voorhees and just go straight to her son Jason and his need to kill (people may forget that he doesn’t even appear until part 2 in the original canon).

As a hardcore fan of the original franchise, I’m feeling skeptical about this new iteration, but if Bruckner does sign on to direct, we could see something interesting…as long as they bring back either fan favorite Kane Hodder or Derek Mears (from the 2009 reboot) to step back into Jason’s famous onesie with machete in hand.

Friday The 13th is slated for release on March 13, 2015. Yes, that’s a Friday. And they’re going to have to come up with a new way to name these films, because these titles are about to get a lot more confusing with three versions of Friday the 13th out there. (Editor’s note: Be sure to listen to the Killer POV crew talk in depth about the franchise here).
