thanks for clearing up the stuff with the direwolf kill. i thought it was the white-walkers as well. one thing i’m hoping for over the course of the rest of the season, and probably into the next two, is that they will flesh meera’s character out a little more, especially because of the high-born comment made when the mutineers were threatening to rape her. hoping they explain meera and jojen’s backgrounds a little more & given that it’s just the four of them on their own again, there’s a chance they might do that

I’ve listened to the commentary (all the commentary), and I know that Martin definitely writes his episode per season, but he’s claimed that he’s been surprised by where his scenes end up, meaning they don’t always end up in the same episode he wrote for (for instance, in his season 3 episode, he said he had nothing to do with any of the Theon scenes, and that was the showrunners’ decision to speed that up). So he’s definitely not 100% included in all the plots, and to be honest, I’m really excited. As someone who’s read the books, I really am loving the changes thus far, especially with the north.

As for my anticipation for next season, I’m extremely excited. The reason why, despite the overall negative view towards books four and five in terms of pacing and overall anti-excitement, I really, really loved the aftermath of all of the third book’s action. Not to mention…. I love the Ironborn (Iron Isles; Greyjoys; etc.), and I hope they show us more of them in the show next season. To me, the most boring of the books so far has been book two, to be honest.

I’m pretty sure GRRM doesn’t have TOO much to do with it. He writes like one episode, and perhaps gets a few emails, but I don’t think he’s overly involved. I’d also like to make a correction… GRRM wrote the second episode where Joffrey dies. He didn’t write the “episode where most of the book things diverge” or anything like that.

Jojen had that moment like when Homer Simpson ate that hot sauce and he hilucinated that he was in the desert talking to that coyote with the Johnny Cash voice. 🙂

    • Hahaha!!! I love this comment so much!!!

The young Wilem Defoe, Walking Dead kill was the best for me though. 🙂

I’m gonna start my posts off with points because I’m pretty lazy…here goes:

    – Littlefinger never slept with/took Catelyn’s virginity. She was the embodiment of her house words “Family, Duty, Honour” and proud, strong Cat would never have indulged (what she saw as) Petyr’s “crush”. I think there’s two possible scenarios. 1. Littlefinger truly believes that he did, when he was being treated and feverish, Lysa took advantage of him being out of it (essentially raping him, because he couldn’t give proper consent) and slept with him…and he may as well really believe that it was Cat. 2. He’s probably just making that “I took both of the Tully girls virginity” bit up…Littlefinger is a gossip and it’s common knowledge that he always disliked the Starks because of what Brandon did to him and his obsession with Catelyn…he’s basically just “shit talking” because one of the most scandalous thing you can say, as a person from a lowly house…is that you slept with a girl of a much higher stature, let alone sisters.

    – New Daario is much more attractive to me, maybe that’s because a common nickname that went around for him on tumblr for the old one was “Costco Jaime”…anything would have been an improvement for me. Still bummed out with the lack of blue hair/forked beard and gold moustachios…I want it.

    – I agree with you Jenna. I really don’t like how the show is handling sexual assault, especially with the past two episode in Craster’s Keep. I believe now, instead of the “sexposition” (where exposition is giving out while a sex scene is happing to fit in HBO’s boob quota) that the show is famous for…is now turning into “rapeposition”…I don’t think I’ve ever watched anything where graphic rape was the backdrop of a conversation…a bit much, if you ask me…especially when the big bad was drinking wine out of a human skull…we get it…”EVIL”. I was really scared that Meera was going to be sexually assaulted, I wouldn’t have much of an issue with this, if they didn’t completely neglect her character development as well but were able to include the threat of rape? I really hope that the develop Meera and Jojen’s characters more…and I was slightly annoyed that it’s never been addressed that Meera is the only one among them who knows how to hunt, fight and protect them…other than Summer, of course. The wife at the end didn’t really justify all of the things that I had to watch in the past two episodes. It seemed like some damage control being done…but hey, that’s just me. It might have worked for other people.

    – Loved the Sandsnakes mention…I’m hoping we see all 8 of them in future seasons!

    – I just interpreted Jojen’s firehand vision as him just seeing the upcoming burning of Craster’s Keep.

    – I see Arya’s storyline, in terms of her killing, as a necessity at first…she needs to do it to survive. It’s starting to change Arya into something darker…. and turning into an art form, really…her “calling” and her purpose. We’ve seen glimpses of this already with her thirst for revenge…but imo, that Inn scene in episode one of this season was a turning point…the way she slid that blade in slowly and enjoyed ever inch going in…how she taunted Polliver with the same dialogue that he used…she’s loving it.

    – Nitpick-nerd-rage-moment: Why isn’t Sansa’s hair dyed brown?

    • Costco Jamie? That is brilliant!!! 🙂 I hit the wikia again and you’re right. I believe Petyr THOUGHT he slept with Catelyn and the Lysa thing would definitely qualify as rape.

So excited for the Sandsnakes!!! I think we’ll see them. I was concerned until I heard Oberyn mention his daughters. Can’t wait! And you could totally be right about the firehand. I was just guessing. I was thinking it was more of an endgame thing because Meera asked how they’d know it had ended. Who knows?

And YES on the hair! I’m wondering if Lysa is going to make her do it in the next episode.

By Oberyn’s Balls that was a very entertaining recap. Three points:

1 I’m pretty sure (Littlefingers bragging notwithstanding) he didn’t actually “take Catelyn’s maidenhead.”
2 Re: The book everyone hated – I just finished my re-read of Feast for Crows as part of re-reading the series and loved it 2nd time around.
3 Sansa is no longer the worst liar Westeros

  • Cheyne Johnson

Cercei was nice to Margaery because Margaery’s father is a judge.
Cercei was cooperative with Tywin because he is a judge.
Cercei had a sob story with Oberyn because he is a judge.
Cercei is playing the Game of Thrones.

I just have one simple question…….will we ever find out what happened to Jon Snow’s Uncle Bengen?

  • 4l3x T0rr3s

I think we might still see Cold Hands. There is still time

Not to knock those other Game of Thrones podcasts, but yours is the best Game of Thrones podcast I’ve listened to yet. Wish Devin told us about sooner!
