NEWS HIGHLIGHTS this week include: A new casting notice for “The Walking Dead” teases the addition of a really villainous character that sounds a lot like Negan, NBC’s premiere of “Blindspot” brought in 10.2-million viewers, Sean Penn is suing “Empire” co-creator Lee Daniels for $10-million over defamatory remarks, FX CEO John Landgraf says his network’s shows are better than any of Netflix’s original programming, Megan Fox will step in for Zooey Deschanel for multiple episodes of “New Girl” while she’s away on maternity leave, “Portlandia” will end after its 8th season, David Letterman will host an upcoming episode of National Geographic’s docu-series “Years of Living Dangerously,” NBC is developing a “Taken” prequel series as well as an adaptation of the 1993 movie In The Line of Fire, and a CBS procedural is in development based on the HG Wells sci-fi classic The Island of Dr. Moreau.
