Adam, Joe, and Arwen kick off 2015 with one of Hollywood’s biggest success stories and the galaxy’s guardian himself, director James Gunn (SLITHER, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY). James shares his early experiences changing his career path from novelist to filmmaker, how working at Troma was his “film school”, how SLITHER (a critical darling) was almost never shown to critics, why it is imperative to relocate to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment, his personal opinions on whether or not there is indeed a major difference (besides budget) between making an indie film and making a major studio blockbuster, and things get very personal as the guys discuss how crucial it is to balance both a career and social life as well as the importance of staying grounded and surrounded by quality friends while navigating Hollywood.

Your “Viewer Mail” is answered, there is a “5 Minute Movie” that tries very hard not to roundhouse kick you in the face, and given that this podcast was recorded on the very day that first images and release details from EVERLY (Joe’s new film) and DIGGING UP THE MARROW (Adam’s new film) hit the internet… there is also a candid discussion about dealing with “leaks” and other materials from a film that were perhaps not intended to ever be shared publicly in that form or at that time. Listen and learn with this fantastic conversation that proves just how possible it truly is for one of us “A-holes” to actually win at this every now and then.

  • Thanks for posting. I’ve been waiting for you to get James Gunn eventually on the podcast. I’m a big fan of his. Loved GOTG Along with Slither. Which is so underrated and more people should watch. Anyway, here’s to another hopeful great year of podcasts. So keep up the great work Adam and Joe! These really are the highlights of my week! So it’s a real treat each and single Monday to hear them. So again thanks we all really appreciate it.

      Thanks, Kip!

I admit, when I heard about GUARDIANS and learned about who the characters were I was certain it would be a disaster.

When James Gunn got the gig I became very intrigued, and hoped that his humour wouldn’t be watered down or that he would suffer the way Favreau did with IM2.

Thankfully, I was completely delighted with the movie. I’ve seen it probably six times by now and it just leaves me with a big smile on my face every time.

So, congratulations to James Gunn for that, and to Adam and Joe for another terrific episode. The show just keeps getting better and better.

Sorry for taking this off topic but I need to get something out there, and since Adam and Joe occasionally drop into this comments section I thought this might be a good place to air this. For some reason Lexi Alexander blocked me on Twitter. Now, I really don’t want to take Twitter too seriously, but I’m rather concerned that I’ve done something to piss off Ms Alexander and I’d like her to know that it was never my intention. I’m only ever rude to someone when that person has done something to personally offend me, and as far back as I can remember I haven’t had that much interaction with Ms Alexander – except for the odd tweet I’ve thrown her way, and they were both civilized and respectful. So, Ms Alexander, if you read these sections at all, sorry for any offence caused, although I’m not entirely sure if I did offend you in anyway. I don’t agree at all about your views on piracy, but I have nothing but respect for you and I loved the two episodes in which you appeared. Adam and Joe, I know you might not have time to mediate between two people on the internet, but if you could direct her to this comment I’d be grateful. I tweet at @TweetHoward

Very cool to hear that James wanted Rom in Guardians! If Marvel ever gets the rights back, they should let James do the movie! I still have my figure as well!
This episode was a great way to start the year, thank you!
