With the film set to have a large presence at San Diego Comic-Con this week, Lionsgate’s marketing for next year’s Power Rangers reboot has been fairly consistent leading up to the convention. Following the release of a first still featuring Elizabeth Banks’ Rita Repulsa targeting the Yellow Ranger, a brand new image from the film has been release today as well, that gives us a new look at the film’s version of the iconic Ranger costumes.

Unlike the previous image of the suits though, the new still shows what the rangers look like when they’re unmasked in their costumes, and I continue to say that everything about the suits is fine… expect for the face and mouth pieces.

Check out the still below:

Even before the image of the costumes (which was received rather poorly by fans) was released, the film’s director and numerous members of the creative team had talked about the film’s new approach to the costumes. Opting for a more alien, scientific approach to the suits this time around, rather than the spandex, simple versions in the original iterations.

The cast of actors playing the Rangers is an interesting team of up and coming actors in the industry right now, and the focus on the Rangers’ coming-of-age story in the film does promise to make it at the very least, one of the more interesting and ambitious reboots we’ve seen in recent memory. I just wish that they hadn’t chosen to give them those weird, ugly all gray mouth pieces, that make them look more like toys than literally anything else on the costumes. I guess we’ll just have to hope that they look better in the actual movie itself than they do in the images though – it certainly wouldn’t be the first time.

Power Rangers is set to hit theatres on March 24th, 2017.
